BIO / LOGICAL FAMILY
START THE SHIFT: Biological Family vs. Logical Family
Family is one of the most powerful forces that shapes us. It is also one of the most misunderstood.
As the holiday season approaches, many of us prepare to gather with the people who raised us, grew up with us, or share our last name. For some, this brings warmth and comfort. For others, it brings tension, distance, or uncertainty. Both experiences are real, and neither says anything about your worth or your capacity for connection.
There is a truth many leaders overlook, especially during the holidays. Most of us actually have two families.
There is the biological family, the one we were born into.
And there is the logical family, the one we build with intention. These are the people we choose to walk beside us because of trust, curiosity, care, and mutual growth. They are the ones who bring out our best, challenge us gently, and love us without obligation.
For a lucky few, biological family and logical family blend into one. For many others, they do not. There is no shame in either. There is only awareness, choice, and gratitude.
Biological Family vs. Logical Family
In my work with entrepreneurs and leaders, I see how both families play a role in shaping who we become. Biological family forms our origin story. Logical family shapes our evolution.
Here are a few distinctions I explore more deeply in the video:
• Biological family gives you history. Logical family gives you possibility.
• Stepping back from biological ties when they are unhealthy is an act of emotional intelligence, not guilt.
• Logical family strengthens identity, resilience, and leadership because it is formed through choice, not obligation.
• Gratitude builds both families into something stronger, steadier, and more supportive.
A Thanksgiving Week Reminder
As you move into the holiday week, pause for a moment and look at the people who make you more grounded, more honest, and more yourself. These are the people shaping the leader you are becoming. Biological or logical, they matter.
Thank them.
Let them know the impact they have on your life.
Connection grows in the spaces where gratitude is spoken out loud.
