RESOLUTIONS
Resolutions Are Not About Behavior. They Are About Direction.
Every January, we make promises to ourselves. Work harder. Earn more. Be better. And every year, many of those resolutions quietly fade.
That is because resolutions are not really about behavior. They are about orientation.
The real question is not what you will do differently this year.
It is which way you are pointing your energy, attention, and ambition.
A helpful framework for this comes from how we relate to work and income.
A job is about survival.
It pays the bills and creates stability.
A career is about success.
It is about progress, recognition, and achievement.
A calling is about fulfillment.
It connects your work to meaning, purpose, and identity.
None of these orientations are wrong. In fact, most of us move between them at different stages of life. The problem arises when we do not name which one we are chasing. When survival goals wear the costume of fulfillment, or when success goals pretend to be purpose.
That misalignment is what makes resolutions feel heavy or hollow.
Before you set goals this year, pause and ask one honest question:
Which orientation am I choosing right now?
That answer changes how you define progress. It shapes how you spend your time. It determines whether your effort feels draining or energizing.
If you want to start the year with clarity instead of pressure, begin there.
